Whoopi Goldberg is an American award-winning television personality, actor, comedian, author and producer who is one of the longtime hosts of ABC’s daytime talk show ‘The View.’ Goldberg joined The View on September 4, 2007, as a moderator and a co-host replacing Rosie O’Donnell. Goldberg is one of 16 entertainers to win an Emmy Award, a Grammy Award, an Academy Award, and a Tony Award (EGOT).
She had previously worked in a number of drama projects before going into Hollywood. When she was roughly 26 years old, she made her feature film debut in William Farley’s Citizen: I’m Not Losing My Mind, I’m Giving It Away.
The other current cast of the popular ABC show The View are Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin and Sara Haines. On Tuesday 1st February 2022 following her statements about the Holocaust, Goldberg was suspended from the ABC show ‘The View’ for two weeks. In response to the Tennessee-based McMinn County School Board’s removal of the graphic novel ‘Maus’ from their syllabus, Goldberg said:
“Let’s be truthful, the Holocaust isn’t about race, it’s not. It’s about man’s inhumanity to man, that’s what it’s about. These are two groups of white people.”
Goldberg said that race was not a factor in the Holocaust’s crimes. She went on to say that it was caused by individuals mistreating one another.
Following the major backlash her comments received online, Goldberg, who is of Jewish descent, apologized hours later in a statement shared via Twitter. She said:
“On today’s show I said the Holocaust’ is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man’. I should have said it is about both … I stand corrected…The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I am sorry for the hurt I have caused.”
