Stacey Cunningham is an American banker by profession who currently serves as the 67th president of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) since 2018. Cunningham rejoined the NYSE in 2012 and was appointed as the exchange’s chief operating officer in 2015. She was appointed president of the NYSE on May 22, 2018. Cunningham is the second female president of the NYSE, but the first to hold full leadership of the exchange since its founding in 1792.

Now Cunningham is president of the exchange–the first woman to run the organization since its founding in 1792. She made history on May 22, 2018, at the age of 43 she was named the first female president of the New York Stock Exchange in its 226-year history and the 67th president in general taking over from Thomas Farley.

In 2002, Catherine Kinney became the NYSE’s first woman co-president, but the role wasn’t as powerful as it sounds, because, at the time, the real boss of the exchange was the CEO or chairman. Now that responsibility falls to Cunningham.

She made a swift decision to shut down in-person trading at the Exchange on March 23, 2020, as the COVID-19, opting to continue its operations electronically.
