KTLA executives have been criticized for how they handled Romero’s exit, including the decision to have entertainment reporter Sam Rubin break the news during a 40-second segment on a weekday news broadcast.

It was also confirmed that her former co-anchor Mark Mester was fired after his on-air reaction to blast his own station for the way they handled Romero’s departure from the station, saying in part, “This is not how you treat someone who gave a lifetime of service to this station.”
