Lionel Bienvenu is an American Emmy award-winning journalist who serves as a News/Sports Anchor and Director, for Denver 7 in Denver, Colorado since June 2001. Prior to joining , Bienvenu was a studio anchor for Fox Sports Net from (1997 to 2001).

Lionel won the 2019 Emmy Award for “Best Sports Anchor” in Denver. He also won Emmy Awards in 2011 and 2014 for “Best Sports Anchor,” and one for his adventure show “Lionel’s World” in 2006. Lionel also won “Best Sportscast” from the Colorado Broadcaster’s Association in 2011 and 2012. He was named “Best TV Sportscaster” in 2014 by Westword Magazine.

His first job was as a sports anchor and reporter covering the USL’s Ragin’ Cajuns in Lafayette, Louisiana in 1985. Soon after, he relocated to WVUE-TV Fox-8 in New Orleans, where from 1989 until 1993, he co-hosted the “Jim Mora Show” alongside the Saint’s head coach. He won honors from the New Orleans Press Club for “Best Host” and “Best Sportscaster” in 1995.

In 1997, Lionel relocated from New Orleans to Los Angeles to serve as an anchor for the Fox Sports Network. He served as the host of “Fox Sports News Prime Time,” an hour-long program which later changed to “The National Sports Report.” In addition, he hosted “Baseball Today” on Fox and “The English Premier League Soccer Show” on Fox Sports Net and Fox Sports World from 1998 to 2000. The show was broadcast in Central and South America, Europe, and the United States.  The show was so popular that there were six different soccer teams across the U.S. that named themselves after Bienvenu!

Bienvenu covered the 1997 Super Bowl and the 1997 MLB All-Star game, as well as the 2000 “Subway Series” between the Yankees and Mets. In June 2000, he served as a guest host on “This Week in Sports” on DirectTV as well as on Fox Sports Radio in Los Angeles. He served as the host of the Los Angeles and Rocky Mountain regions’ Fox Sports Regional Sports Reports in 2001.

In 2001, Bienvenu joined Denver7 as the sports director and began anchoring “Monday Night Live” alongside Ed McCaffrey, a Broncos receiver. Lionel also hosted “The John Fox Show” and “Mile High Living” in 2012 and 2013.

However, Lionel moved to News and hosted the Denver7 morning show and “The Now” at 4pm, but went back to Sports in 2014. Lionel says,  The Rockies’ “Run to the World Series” in 2007, “Rocktober,” the Broncos’ signing of Peyton Manning in 2012, and their run to the Super Bowl in 2013 and 2015 have all been among the top moments so far. And 2011’s Tebow-Mania was unbelievable! Lionel’s hobbies include watching his kids play sports!
