Two years ago, a psychotic shooter approached Kyle as he was heading for work and sprayed him with bullets, almost killing him.
As Kyle pulled out of his driveway On February 10, 2015, a disgruntled house painter named Mike Montana pulled up behind him and boxed him in. The next thing he knew, Montana approached the car and was only four to five feet away when he started firing. He walked around the car and emptied the 9mm gun’s magazine as he continued to fire.
“Shot after shot after shot,” said Kraska, who was hit six times and suffered a collapsed lung and a perforated liver. He crawled to an intersection where he got assistance while gasping for air, bleeding heavily, and unable to dial 911 with his cell phone that had been shot to pieces.
He was in a coma for six days. In the surgical room, his heart stopped twice. But he managed to walk out of the hospital nine days late.
He was extremely grateful to everyone who helped save his life, the San Diego community for supporting him, and the legal system for convicting Montana and giving him a life sentence after the life-threatening incident.
