Gayle King is an award-winning American journalist, television personality and author who currently serves as the co-host of CBS This Morning. King is also the Editor at Large at Oprah Daily. She joined CBS News in November 2011. Prior to CBS News, King served as a special correspondent for Good Morning America.
King previously hosted The Gayle King Show, a live, weekday television interview program on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. The program, which featured a discussion of a broad variety of topics that included politics and cultural developments, was also broadcast on XM Satellite Radio, where it premiered in 2006.

According to Oprah Daily, when the two were first introduced in 1976, “they were twenty-somethings in the early days of their careers,” they both worked at the WJZ station in Baltimore, Maryland. Gayle and Winfrey, who “worked in different departments but were both about the same age and single young Black women,” “struck up an immediate bond” despite the fact that Gayle “was a production assistant” and Winfrey “an anchor for the 6 o’clock news.”
When Gayle was leaving Baltimore for Kansas City to become a news anchor, Oprah was already making her mark in Chicago. The two kept their friendship going despite the long distance.
