She joined CBS News in November 2011. Prior to CBS News, King served as a special correspondent for Good Morning America.
King previously hosted The Gayle King Show, a live, weekday television interview program on OWN: The Oprah Winfrey Network. Gayle and Winfrey, who “worked in different departments but were both about the same age and single young Black women,” “struck up an immediate bond” despite the fact that Gayle “was a production assistant” and Winfrey “an anchor for the 6 o’clock news.”
When Gayle was leaving Baltimore for Kansas City to become a news anchor, Oprah was already making her mark in Chicago. The two kept their friendship going despite the long distance.
