He began his career in television WFSU-TV in Tallahassee, Florida as an engineer while still, he was pursuing his college course. He, later on after graduation moved to Atlanta and joined WXIA-TV now called WQXI-TV, where he worked as a maintenance engineer/technical director.
In 1974 while he was still in this station, he was promoted to acting Production Manager. In 1975, he relocated to Denver and joined KUSA-TV now the KBTV, as the evening director of the station’s newscasts.
In 1976, Norcross was assigned to produce (and for over a year direct as well) the 10:00 pm news which became the market’s highest-rated news program. As of 1977, he was the News Director to WLKY-TV in Louisville. In 1979 he went back to Florida State University for a master’s program.
He earned his Master’s Degree in 1980, where he, later on, joined CNN as the first-weekend weathercaster when it signed on in June the same year. In the same year, he moved to San Francisco where he joined the KGO-TV where he covered weekend weather and science reports during the week.
During 1981, Norcross went back to Atlanta as Executive Producer for Documentaries and Magazines at WTBS, handling many of Ted Turner’s pet projects. He as well worked as a weekend meteorologist on WXIA-TV.
In 1984, he moved to the 5:30 news where he created a concept called Neighborhood Weather where the weather was done as part of a live feature every day. In 1990, he joined WTVJ, the NBC-owned station, as Chief Meteorologist where he was famously known for covering Hurricane Andrew. He joined WFOR in 1996 as Director of Meteorology.
